10 Reasons why you should visit Peru

Sacred Valley of the Incas

Visiting The Sacred Valley of the Incas means stepping into the entryway to a civilization full of secrets, legends and history. The Inca Empire holds archeological sites you can still visit today in the valley of the Andes. Here, the world is your classroom.

Cusco City

Cobble streets, colonial architecture, hills overlooking the city, restaurants and shops all around Plaza de Armas. Cusco is beautiful and worth alone the visit to Peru.

Peruvian food

Award winning chefs, restaurants in the list of Top 50 World Best Restaurants, and endless options of ceviche paired with pisco sours… you won’t be disappointed. Peru is quite the foodie’s paradise thanks to it’s authentic food and also the Asian-fusions found everywhere.

Nazca Lines

These lines date back to ~500 BC and their origins remain unexplained and full of mystery. We flew with AeroNasca for a 30 minute overflight to see 13 different geoglyphs such as the condor, the spider, the money and the astronaut. These shapes have been carved into the desert and can only be seen by flying above them, and we were lucky to have a knowledgeable and helpful pilot/co-pilot showing us the Nazca lines from above. Thanks AeroNasca!

Paragliding in Lima

Bet you didn’t know about this one! I was fascinated by the people flying above my head as I was walking along the Limean coast in Peru’s capital. The waters are apt for surfing and paragliding, and the cliffside views of metropolitan and Pacific waters connecting are breathtaking.

Huacachina

The only desert oasis in the Americas! For those seeking the thrill of the adventure, you have the option of riding through the dunes by buggy or sliding down the sand dunes with a sand board! Both are highly recommended experiences.

Rainbow Mountain

Standing at over 17,000 feet above sea level, you have to take a very curvy ride up another mountain and then start your 1.5h hike to the colorful Rainbow Mountain. Worth it? Absolutely.

Maras Salt Mines

Over 5,000 salt ponds decorate the side of the mountain. They sit in various levels and were used by the Incas over 2,000 years ago, yet they are still preserved and used for their salt today.

Your entryway to South America

Have you considered spending sone time traveling to the coffee region of Colombia, wine region of Chile, or the Patagonia in Argentina? If you’re already in Peru and have the extra time, might as well extend your trip to visit other amazing countries!

As you can see, Peru was a step into the past, full of unique destinations and exciting day trips. We had world class cuisine at affordable prices and had the joy of meeting friendly Peruvians and getting to know our neighborhood Miraflores. I only hope to return one day to continue to explore the mysteries of this country!
